James Pett and Travis Clausen-Knight, founders of PCK Dance, are accomplished choreographers and dancers with successful individual careers in prestigious companies like Company Wayne McGregor and Michael Clarke Company.

Renowned for their provocative and intensely powerful movement language, they focus on the intricacies of the human experience, creating poignant and thought-provoking works that resonate deeply on a personal and emotional level.

With a repertoire of over 15 works, including short and full-length productions, the company tours globally while developing a network of commissioned works, educational and outreach activities in partnership with institutions like the British Council. They are also active as guest performers in galas like Roberto Bolle & Friends and The Ballet Icons Gala.

After only one year of activity, PCK Dane was nominated among the UK’s best independent company by the Critics Circle, and alisted as one of the top 10 artists to watch.

In early 2023 James and Travis became associate artists of DANCEHAUSpiù, with whom they produced In the Absence, After Echoes, Vessel, and danced in Matteo Bittante's work Le Spectre de La Rose | Rave.

A coproduction with Abano Danza 2024
Duration 30'

What are we in a world of noise? What do we witness amidst sudden silence?

When do we realise the true nature of ourselves that we have long disguised, and feared to confront?

Vessel explores how we have become unrecognisable to ourselves in the ever-moving landscape of modern life and how we have mistaken dream and delusion for reality.

Time, memory and connection are explored to bring a focus on how life is left in a state of impermanence. The work itself is a visual representation of how memory passes through us, or how the most significant moments graze the mind. On stage a trio of two men and a woman whose memories collide and overlap in space to create an endless stream of memories in which each dancer represents moments of the self.

What does it mean to move forward in life? How can fear and trauma affect our will to move forward? Where sorrow meets joy, exile meets return, decay meets growth. Silence came between. A journey in movement exploring the nature of absence and our transition from endings to beginnings.

-- In the absence is an exploration on the nature of moving forward, the concept of evolving past an event and the boundaries created in that transition.

The piece explores the journey of two characters each of whom struggles in the shared experience of letting go and the universal fear of acceptance.

Reflection, struggle and longing to let go are the central themes explored through the dancers movements and the evocative set filled with thousands of small reflective confetti. The stage floor creates a vast mirrored surface where the dancers move, shift and even dishevel the materials. This powerful visual effect provokes the constant flux of the human mind as we process the memories of our past. The shifting nature of the choreography is a visual meditation on how our experiences can shape the choices we make to move forward.

What emerges from what was buried gives way to something new, new life, like autumn in the woods.
